Sarah Dees Biography

Sarah Dees
Visual Artist and Performing Arts Teacher

Sarah Dees is an accomplished artist with over twenty years of professional experience. Her paintings and prints have been published nationally, and as an entrepreneur, Sarah built a successful business in fine art and picture framing, specializing in working with interior designers on new buildings, renovations and in the hospitality field. Her art reflects beauty and happiness, which enhances the quality of life.

Sarah began her professional teaching career at Wellington school, contributing to the school's performing arts programs. She has taught visual arts and performing arts, sharing her talent and skill in each of these areas. She enjoys writing for children's theatre and creating original musical plays. Sarah has an affirmative and enthusiastic attitude, and a natural rapport with children, based on respect and positive reinforcement. Throughout her career, Sarah has done volunteer work to benefit children, from choreography to set design, mural work and teaching.

Sarah was a motivated student of the arts, devoting her time to ballet and modern dance, theatre, music, literature and visual art. In high school she was president of the Drama Club and won the Art Club scholarship. She studied dance from age four through her college years. She skipped two grades, to begin her college education in the early admissions program at age sixteen.

She earned a full academic scholarship to Eckerd College. At Eckerd, Sarah played her 12 -string guitar professionally, singing songs she wrote in concert and in theatre productions. She applied her artistic skills to set design and her dance training to choreography. She began her volunteer work in leadership roles at Eckerd, as a Student Senator, an English tutor, and Director of the Student Activities Board. Sarah transferred to the highly regarded illustration program at Parsons School of Design in New York City, continuing on scholarship, earning her B.F.A. degree in 1982. She started her career in Florida.

Sarah founded her first business, Dees Design Graphics, in 1983, which she ran successfully for twenty years. She served on the Florida and National Board of the Sunshine Chapter of the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality, a nonprofit organization devoted to scholarships for young women in hospitality and business networking.

Now, in January 2006, Sarah is starting her art business anew as Sarah Dees Art, providing murals, framed custom paintings and original prints to the public. She is divorced, and her beautiful daughter Carianne Crystal is beginning her pro career in the entertainment industry and is home schooled. Carianne enjoys home schooling as it allows her the flexibility to advance at her own pace and excel in academics, as well as enjoy the creativity of a home filled with art, music, dance and theatre.
